Roy Hodgson hints at potential goalkeeping concern at Crystal Palace

The 36-year-old veteran keeper has been a mainstay in the English capital over the last five seasons since his arrival from Getafe, but could push for a move away from the club before the conclusion of the current transfer window.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has sounded the alarm bell in the run-up to the 2023-24 Premier League season surrounding first-choice goalkeeper Vicente Guaita after the Spanish shot-stopper has admitted to being disillusioned with life at Selhurst Park.

The 36-year-old veteran keeper has been a mainstay in the English capital over the last five seasons since his arrival from Getafe but could push for a move away from the club before the conclusion of the current transfer window.

Per football insider Fabrizio Romano, Hodgson stated that the Valencia-born keeper has become disenchanted with the club, and would like to move.

“Guaita is disenchanted with the club. So he has made it clear that he would like to move on and he’s refusing to play. It’s up to the club to decide, not him, but the current situation is that he’s made it clear to everybody that he doesn’t want to be here.”

In theory, Palace should be able to cope just fine should Guaita ultimately source a move away from the club in the coming weeks given the club still retaining 30-year-old Sam Johnstone on their books, who is viewed by many Eagles supporters as the better of the two keepers by comparison.

Still, with Guaita the number one at current, it is hardly ideal for the club to go into what could be another critical campaign with uncertainty surrounding a key figure of the senior setup.
