Norway vs France match preview

After a very controversial victory over Italy at Cluj Arena, will France make it two wins out of two?

On Thursday, les Bleuets needed goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier to make a fabulous save before, less than two minutes later, taking the lead.

Pierre Kalulu’s low-cross exquisitely flicked into the far corner by Arnaud Kalimuendo, a goal well-worth seeking out.

However, soon after, Italy were level, only for France to restore their lead on the hour mark, wen Bradley Barcola punished some horrendously slack defending by the Italians.

With just seven minutes to play, Loïc Badé was sent off for a last-man challenge, and then, deep into injury time, Italy thought they’d equalised, the ball clearly going over the line, before Castello Lukeba hacked it away.

Referee Allard Lindhout did not agree and, with no goal-line technology or VAR in operation, France got away with one, as the ten men, fortuitously, claimed a 2-1 win.

Norway meanwhile were beaten in their opener by Switzerland, despite taking the lead through Emil Konradsen Ceïde’s thunderbolt on Thursday.

Leif Gunnar Smerud’s side are the lowest-ranked side in Group D and were always rank-outsiders to reach the knockout phase, with this the first time Norway have qualified for a decade.

So, everything points towards a French win at Stadionul Dr. Constantin Rădulescu.

Norway team news

Mads Hedenstad will keep his place in goal, chosen over Kristoffer Klaesson of Leeds, while Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb, not the Norwegian striker you’re thinking of, will lead the line.

Sassuolo’s Emil Konradsen Ceïde is the top-scorer in this squad, bagging his fifth at U21 level against Switzerland.

France team news

Loïc Badé’s red card in mid-week means he’ll be suspended, with Mohamed Simakan coming in to partner Castello Lukeba at centre-back, which isn’t a bad deputy is it?

Lucas Chevalier was surprisingly chosen to start in goal over Illan Meslier, but Sylvain Ripoll’s decision was vindicated by some excellent saves.

Michael Olise, Amine Adli and Rayan Cherki all came off the bench on Thursday, emphasising the strength in depth this French team boasts.
