Match preview

Two sides in the midst of altogether stellar spells of recent form are set to lock horns in a Championship showdown at Turf Moor this Saturday, December 17th.

The clash in question will see table-topping Burnley play host to a Middlesbrough side looking altogether reborn.

First, let’s take a look at the recent efforts of the former.

Burnley, of course, have stood as the standout performers across the campaign to date in England’s 2nd tier.

This comes owing to a record of 12 wins, and just a pair of defeats thus far.

Vincent Kompany’s troops headed into the World Cup break fresh off no fewer than eight wins from their prior ten outings, the last of which saw them put the aforementioned Blackburn to the sword by a convincing three goals to nil.

And a similar scoreline was forthcoming in their return to action last weekend, when strikes on the part of all of Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson, Ian Maatsen and Nathan Tella guided Burnley past QPR at Loftus Road.

Safe to say, then, that the upcoming visitors to Turf Moor will have their work cut out for them in securing a positive result.

As alluded to above, though, Middlesbrough will likely head into proceedings quietly confident in their chances of clinching precisely that.

This comes with the Yorkshire club having too excelled over recent weeks.

After spending the majority of the term scrapping it out amidst the relegation dogfight, Boro have since racked up a remarkable 13 points from an available 15, courtesy of four wins from five.

Three of these have come on the spin either side of the break, including a head-turning 2-1 triumph at Carrow Road a month ago.

This, in turn, was followed by a similar result against Luton Town in their return to the pitch last weekend, when Matt Crooks proved the hero deep into injury time.

The bulk of the credit for such stellar form must of course go to Michael Carrick, with the former Manchester United midfielder having done a wonderful job in guiding Middlesbrough to the unlikely safety of mid-table.

We at 101, though, nevertheless envision Saturday’s visitors being brought firmly back down to earth come the full-time whistle at Turf Moor, backing Burnley to ultimately emerge on the right side of the result.
