The player in question is Victor Lindelof, who joined Manchester United from Benfica in the summer of 2017 for around £30m.
During his time in Manchester, Lindelof has often been criticised for his defensive ability by both fans and even his former manager.
Speaking to Sky in 2019 Jose Mourinho, who was United manager when the Swede moved to Old Trafford, said: “He (Lindelof) can be bullied one-on-one in the box.
“He’s not very good in the air and (Harry) Maguire has that presence and physicality that’s very important.”
Erik ten Hag has since taken charge of Manchester United and preferred a starting centre-back pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.
However, the duo both suffered long-term injuries in the second half of the season, meaning Lindelof started in United’s final nine games of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
However, Fabrizio Romano tweeted recently that Erik ten Hag has never changed his position on Lindelof and considers him ‘untouchable’
Erik ten Hag has never changed position on Victor Lindelöf — he’s untouchable. Same message sent to Atlético & Inter last January still valid now. 🔴⛔️ #MUFC
