Manchester United takeover latest: Preferred bidder to be named this week

A fresh insight into the ongoing takeover process at Premier League giants Manchester United has been provided on Sunday evening.

The subject of the expected changing of hands in the boardroom at Old Trafford has of course dominated the headlines on the red half of Manchester for some time now.

This comes as the long-standing pressure on current owners the Glazers to sell up finally looks set to bear fruit.

Two candidates have for some time now positioned themselves at the front of the queue in the bidding for the Red Devils, in the form of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The former had until recently been considered as leading the race, owing to his willingness to allow the Glazers to remain as partial owners.

Sheikh Jassim’s Qatari team, though, are the widespread bidder of choice amongst the United faithful, with the last 72 hours having seen confidence mount internally that they will ultimately be selected as the consortium to lead the Red Devils into a new era.

As per a report from Matt Lawton The Times:

‘The bidders in the battle for Manchester United are hoping to hear this week if they have finally been given exclusivity status to complete a deal now approaching £6 billion.’

Negotiations between all three parties remain ongoing behind the scenes, ahead of one of English football’s most intriguing sagas finally coming to a close over the days ahead.
