Vincent Kompany tipped as surprise frontrunner for Tottenham job

Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany has, late on Thursday, been tipped as a shock leading contender to take up the reins at Tottenham Hotspur.

The subject of the situation on the bench in north London, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines across the week to date.

This comes after the Spurs hierarchy were forced to kick their long-standing search for a solution to the club’s managerial woes back into gear.

With just two months remaining in the campaign, Antonio Conte was sent on his way last weekend, on the back of a remarkable rant which saw the Italian take aim at the Lilywhites’ players, owner and culture as a whole.

‘We can announce that Head Coach Antonio Conte has left the Club by mutual agreement. We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future,’ Tottenham confirmed.

In Conte’s stead, Spurs assistant boss Cristian Stellini is primed to step into the head coach role for the remainder of the term.

Come the summer, though, a more long-term appointment will be required.

And, if the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday evening is anything to go by, then one such target has been identified, in the form of Vincent Kompany.

As per a report from The Sun:

‘Vincent Kompany has emerged as a leading contender to become Tottenham’s new boss.’

Daniel Levy and co. are understood to have been hugely impressed by the Belgian’s efforts in his first season in the dugout in England, with Kompany’s Burnley currently sitting a full 13 points clear at the Championship summit.

In turn, he has been added to the shortlist of candidates for the Spurs post, alongside the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank.
