SSC Napoli well-positioned to keep and extend star striker Victor Osimhen

Osimhen was the leading light while leading Napoli to its first Scudetto in over thirty years while becoming the first African to ever be crowned Capocannoniere in the league’s history

Serie A champions SSC Napoli could receive a massive boost to their chances of once again pushing for domestic honors as well as making waves in Europe after reports coming out of Italy detail the strong possibility that Victor Osimhen could be set to remain in Naples.

The 24-year-old Nigerian international is fresh off leading I Partenopei to their first Scudetto in over thirty years while also making history as the first-ever African footballer to be crowned Capocannoniere (league top scorer) in the competition’s history.

Per club president Aurelio De Laurentiis; “We’ve an agreement in principle with Victor Osimhen to extend his contract for two more years. In case an exorbitant bid impossible to reject arrives, we will see and make the best decision for the club.”

Osimhen formed a devastating attacking partnership with Georgian star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after his summer arrival from FC Dinamo Batumi in what is now a paltry €10m before the pair went on to combine for 52 direct goal involvements between them in an attacking duo that pushed the club ahead of more traditional Italian giants.

The Nigerian had long been the subject of interest from bigger clubs across the continent, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich all linked with interest in the player at one time or another, with the possibility of a big-money move away from Italy the subject of considerable transfer discussion.

Should Napoli manage to keep hold of their star striker, it would be a real coup for De Laurentiis across a summer transfer window that is sure to see big fees change hands over the next two months.
