Ilkay Gundogan clarifies his future amid Barcelona and Arsenal links

The German was quizzed on what’s next and had plenty to say

Ilkay Gundogan continues to stall on his future having been set for release by Manchester City as things stand, amid interest from several clubs across World football.

The German was a pivotal player in Pep Guardiola’s historic treble winning campaign, and scored twice in the FA Cup final as they beat Manchester City 2-1.

However, he is yet to make a decision on where he will ply his trade next season, with his contract yet to be extended at the Etihad.

Arsenal, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and clubs from Saudi Arabia are all keen on signing the 32-year-old, but Gundogan has admitted that even he doesn’t know where he will be playing next season.

He did, however, rule out one destination.

“No decision has been made yet, I’m still in the process to decide my future”, he explained while on international duty with Germany.

Meanwhile, City boss Guardiola remains keen to keep Gundogan as part of his squad for next season despite interest from Barcelona.

“I’m aware of Barcelona interest in signing Gündo but we’re also very interested in keeping him at the club! I hope he stays with us”, the Spaniard told the media.

“If Barça succeed in signing him, they will get a great, fantastic player”

Gundogan could yet continue his time at the Etihad stadium, where he has enjoyed several stellar campaigns, but is not rushing his decision as to where he will see out the twilight of his career.
