Cristiano Ronaldo beats Lionel Messi to another international milestone

Cristiano Ronaldo has reached another international milestone on Tuesday.

Portugal are facing off with Iceland in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Tuesday evening.

Portugal head into the game having won their first three qualifying matches without conceding a goal, meaning they sit top of Group J, two points clear of second place.

Ahead of the game, meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has broken an international record.

The ageing forward became the top-scoring player in international football history last year and now has 122 international goals – 13 more than the previous record holder and 19 more than Lionel Messi, though Messi has played 14 fewer games and generally faces off against harder sides due to the South American qualifying for the World Cup.

Now, Ronaldo has beaten Messi to a second international record with his appearance vs Iceland.

Ronaldo is the first player in history to reach 200 caps for his country. The previous record holder was Bader Al-Mutawa of Kuwait. Messi, meanwhile, has 175 caps for Argentina.
