Women’s World Cup 2023 Group A betting odds
Norway | 1/3 | 1/20 | 10/1 |
Switzerland | 5/1 | 4/6 | 11/10 |
New Zealand | 5/1 | 10/11 | 4/5 |
Philippines | 500/1 | 100/1 | 1/1000 |
This group has a clear front-runner and a rank-outsider, but second spot could very much be up for grabs.
Norway are World Cup ever-presents, only failing to get out of their group once before, with Hege Riise’s team highly-likely to top Group A and, probably, make a deep run at this tournament.
In contrast, Philippines are one of eight debutants at this World Cup, with only five teams across all eight groups ranked lower than Alen Stajcic’s team.
So, the Philippines are simply aim to score a goal or, possibly, just get a point on the board, as they’re not going to challenge a top two spot.
New Zealand really are the wildcards in Group A, making it one of the most unpredictable sections.
The Football Ferns have featured at five previous editions of the World Cup but, as of yet, have never won a single match, mustering just three draws from 15 fixtures, losing all three in France four summers ago.
Their final group game against Switzerland at Forsyth Barr Stadium on 30 July is likely to be a straight-shootout for qualification, with the Swiss, on paper, the significantly stronger team.
So, will New Zealand emulate Qatar in 2022 by being rubbish hosts, or can the Football Ferns make home advantage count?
Predicted: 1st: Norway. 2nd: Switzerland. 3rd: New Zealand. 4th: Philippines.
