AC Milan officially announce the signing of Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze

The 24-year-old Nigerian international becomes the seventh signing of the summer by the Serie A giants in the wake of the departure of key midfielder Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United.

Italian giants AC Milan have once again moved to add further depth of quality to the senior side under manager Stefano Pioli this summer after completing a move for Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze.

Per an official announcement relayed by football insider Fabrizio Romano, I Rossoneri welcome the El Submarino Amarillo academy graduate to the San Siro after splashing €20m plus €m in add-ons for the standout winger.

The 24-year-old Nigerian international becomes the seventh signing of the summer by the Serie A giants in the wake of the departure of key midfielder Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United which saw the Lombardy-based club receive €64m (£55m).

Milan immediately mobilized those funds spread across a number of key moves meant to reinforce the first team, adding Chelsea duo Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, as well as AZ Alkmaar standout Tijjani Reijnders, RB Salzburg striker Noah Okafor, Atalanta’s Marco Sportiello, and Lazio’s Luka Romero.

As such, it is widely expected that Chukwueze will slot into Pioli’s side when he finds full fitness, along with Pulisic, Okafor, Reijnders, and Loftus-Cheek, offering a new-look Milan that has been acquired for a net spend less than €30m.

During his time with Villarreal after arriving at the academy from Diamond Football Academy in Nigeria, Chukwueze made 207 appearances in all competitions for the club after breaking into the senior team in 2018, scoring 37 goals and being a key figure in helping the club secure its first piece of major silverware in its history during a historic 2020-21 Europa League triumph under Unai Emery.
