Bradford City vs Middlesbrough match preview

These two teams have both featured in League Cup Finals in the 21st century, so who’s run will continue with victory in West Yorkshire?

It’s a decade since Bradford City became the first fourth-tier club since 1962 to reach a major English cup final, ousting Arsenal and Aston Villa en route, before being smashed 5-0 by Swansea City at Wembley.

These days, the Bantams are trying to get out of League Two once again, currently 11th, despite demolishing Newport County 4-1 in South Wales on Saturday.

In this competition, Mark Hughes’ men have already overcome both Accrington Stanley and Wrexham in penalty shootouts, so Bradford will believe they can cause a shock here.

Middlesbrough meantime were League Cup winners in 2004, with Steve McClaren’s team defeating Bolton Wanderers at the Millennium Stadium almost two decades ago.

Now led by Michael Carrick, Boro made a nightmare start to this season, failing to win any of their first seven Championship games, before a massive victory over Southampton at the weekend.

Thus, having dumped out Huddersfield and Bolton, Boro have actually won more League Cup games than league fixtures thus far, now on the cusp of a first appearance in round four since 2018.
