Man United fans react to Dion Dublin’s claims about Anthony Martial

Dion Dublin backs Anthony Martial; fans disagree

Manchester United are in the midst of their Carabao Cup third round clash with West Ham at Old Trafford tonight, and at the time of writing, the Red Devils are 1-0 down with just minutes to play. French international forward Anthony Martial was given a run out in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s match day XI tonight, leading the line in a front three along with summer signing Jadon Sancho and in-limbo England international Jesse Lingard.

With United struggling to find a breakthrough against David Moyes’ resurgent Hammers outfit, former Coventry City and Aston Villa standout Dion Dublin backed Martial to succeed while on BBC 5 Live Sport on match coverage;

“Martial can be a top striker for United. He just needs to work on his finishing!”

However, most fan responses on Twitter were rather contrarian and characteristically in blunt fashion.

Falling short at Old Trafford

Martial has hardly been the picture of consistency since joining United from AS Monaco back in 2015-16.

The full French international and Olympique Lyonnais youth graduate has only embarked on one bright season in his six years at Old Trafford when he hit 17-goals and added 7-assists in a highly effective Premier League campaign in 2019-20.

Despite two other domestic campaigns that saw him eclipse double figures in the goal charts, Martial has truly never been viewed as dispensable at the club, with constant doubt surrounding his tenure at the Theatre of Dreams.

Another disappointing performance for the Massy-native will hardly do the Frenchman any favours as he continues to try to find his niche at England’s biggest club during a season that included two big additions to the forward line in Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.
