Erling Haaland equals record after securing PFA Player of the Year award

After a record-setting debut season in England in the wake of his arrival from German giants Borussia Dortmund, Haaland embarked on an incredible 2022-23 campaign with Manchester City with an end result that saw him hit 52 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions

Norwegian goalscoring sensation Erling Haaland continues to write his name into the annals of Premier League lore after the 22-year-old Manchester City ace equals a long-standing record after being named Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year.

After a record-setting debut season in England in the wake of his arrival from German giants Borussia Dortmund, Haaland embarked on an incredible 2022-23 campaign with Manchester City with an end result that saw him hit 52 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions, including a new single-season record of 36 Premier League goals.

As such, Haaland has become just the second player to win the PFA Player of the Year in his debut season in the English top flight, following in the footsteps of former Manchester United and Dutch international striker Ruud van Nistelrooij.

All told, Haaland has already led the line in four successful trophy hauls for Pep Guardiola, including a first-ever Champions League win, while his list of personal accolades is as impressive as any, after adding the Young Player of the Year to his winner’s medals in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Premier League Player of the Season, winning the golden boot in both the Premier League and Champions League, while also banking the FWA Footballer of the Year, and PFA Player of the Year.

Having already hit three goals to begin the new season and sitting as joint top-goalscorer alongside Taiwo Awoniyi, Bryan Mbeumo, and Solly March, another fine season could be on the cards.
