“I am convinced now that God is a Man City fan” – Klopp blames divine intervention for poor form

Klopp blames God

Jurgen Klopp was at a loss for an explanation as to why his Liverpool side have fared so poorly in the defence of their Premier League title this season, following yesterday’s Merseyside derby defeat.

“I cannot explain really,” Klopp said. “I think us being dominant in games is becoming a familiar story, but the opponent still scores.”

“We controlled the quality of the opponent well—but the one mistake we make they punish. They could make 10 mistakes, but we didn’t punish.”

Klopp then made a rather unorthodox claim that a form of divine intervention was the reasoning for the Reds’ plight in the league so far.

“You just cannot play football in this heavy wind,” Klopp explained. “I am convinced now that God is a Man City fan and that he will do everything to stop us. You can’t win against God.”

“Most importantly we have to admit that they scored twice, and we didn’t so that makes the result. Around their goals I think we created enough but we didn’t finish the situations off. We weren’t clinical.”

Liverpool will slip 5 points off a top-4 spot, should West Ham beat Spurs later today.

Klopp’s Henderson concern

Furthering Liverpool’s problems, Jordan Henderson was forced off injured in Saturday’s match, and Klopp could not provide a positive update.

“It’s the groin/adductor region and nobody in the medical department was positive about it,” the Liverpool boss said.

“It doesn’t look good, but we have to wait, of course, for the scan tomorrow, hopefully.”

Liverpool have lost a significant number of their first-team squad to injury throughout the campaign. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Diogo Jota have all failed to play a single minute since the turn of the year, in addition to further defensive issues.
