Simeone not feeling the pressure
Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid suddenly find themselves just one point ahead in the La Liga title race despite having building up a significant lead since the start of the campaign.
Sevilla managed to defeat a very poor Atleti side 1-0 in Seville and a last minute winner from Ousmane Dembele for Barcelona sent them within touching distance just before El Classico.
Simeone was in an unpleasant mood in the post-match press conference and was asked about his manner directly.
“Well, I don’t know what you expect me to be like after a defeat,” Simeone said when he was asked whether or not he was in a bad mood after the loss.
“I’m sure, I know the way and I’m not afraid of anything.
“This isn’t happening because of nerves. Being able to play better, being a strong unit, I don’t think it’s down to nerves.”
Simeone referenced that his Atletico side have achieved something by breaking apart the typical two-horse race for the La Liga title.
“The Spanish league is tough until the end in every title race,” said Simeone.
“There are usually only two teams [competing], as well as us in 2014 or 2017, but it was always a two-horse race.
“Now we’re competing, more for bad than for good in recent times.
“We have to find a way for the boys to be as good as they were in the first half of the season.”
Suarez injury confirmed
However Simeone appears to be facing a period of further bad luck as it was confirmed that star striker Luis Suarez has suffered an injury which was given an unknown return date.
Atletico released the following statement:
‘Luis Suárez suffers a muscle injury in his left leg. Our player, after feeling some discomfort in training this Wednesday, underwent medical tests by the club’s medical services that confirmed the injury of the Uruguayan international. It is pending evolution.’

The ‘pending evolution’ refers to the amount of time needed to discover how long he is expected to miss and to the extent of the damage to his leg.
Without him, Atletico will likely see Joao Felix be tasked with stepping up to become the protagonist in the Rojiblancos attack.
