Arsenal boss Arteta reassures Guendouzi, hints at Ceballos return & provides Gabriel update

Mikel Arteta this evening provided a number of major personnel updates concerning Arsenal’s squad, ahead of the club’s fast-approaching Community Shield meeting with Liverpool.

Gunners on the up

Arsenal, like the rest of the Premier League’s clubs, are currently gearing up for the new campaign.

And, on the back of an altogether hit-and-miss year, spirits, for the first time in some time, appear high on the red half of north London.

The Mikel Arteta era is of course firmly underway at the Emirates, with the Spaniard’s positive influence having proven infectious amongst both the Gunners squad and fanbase since his appointment late in 2019.

The culmination of the former Manchester City boss’ impressive work thus far came earlier this month, as Arsenal clinched FA Cup glory at the expense of London rivals Chelsea.

The Gunners’ Wembley triumph proved crucial for a whole host of reasons, securing not only Arteta’s first piece of silverware as a tactician, but also his side’s place in Europe for next season.

Ceballos/Guendouzi updates

Along with the aforementioned results of Arsenal’s FA Cup success, meanwhile, the capital giants also booked their spot in this year’s edition of the Community Shield.

Arteta’s men are set to take on Liverpool in Saturday’s showpiece clash, ahead of the Premier League campaign getting underway next month.

And, as outlined above, speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s season curtain-raiser, the Arsenal boss was this evening drawn on a whole host of noteworthy topics.

First, Arteta provided an update on the future of Matteo Guendouzi.

French midfielder Guendouzi of course fell heavily out of favour over the final weeks of last season, after being accused of a distasteful outburst following a meeting with Brighton.

As such, the widespread expectation was that the 21-year-old would be moved on this summer.

Arteta, though, has hinted that Guendouzi could yet remain part of his setup for next season, explaining:

Next up was an update on Dani Ceballos.

Spanish international Ceballos spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan at the Emirates, with his increasingly impressive displays having seen many Arsenal fans call for the midfielder’s arrival to be made permanent.

To this point, such a development has not been forthcoming, but, if the latest comments on the part of Arteta are anything to go by, then Ceballos himself does indeed appear keen on a return to north London:

Finally, the Arsenal boss revealed his hope that the club’s swoop for Gabriel Magalhaes will soon be finalised, on the back of weeks of rampant speculation:
