West Ham boss Moyes confirms response from Liverpool-linked Matheus Nunes

The Portuguese talent had been targeted as a potential reinforcement to the Irons’ ranks

West Ham United head coach David Moyes has confirmed that the club have heard back from in-demand Sporting CP star Matheus Nunes regarding a potential move to east London.

The name of gifted midfielder Nunes, of course, has taken its place centre stage in the headlines over recent weeks.

This comes with the 23-year-old having been hotly tipped to take his talents to the Premier League.

Until recently, the outfit most widely pushed by the media as a potential landing spot for Nunes came in the form of Liverpool.

The Reds’ engine room ranks are of course lacking in bodies at present, owing to injuries suffered by the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

And yet, as alluded to above, it is another of the English top-flight’s clubs who, in fact, this week tabled an opening offer for Nunes’ signature.

The outfit in question? West Ham United.

Speaking to the media on Friday, David Moyes was asked for the latest on the ongoing efforts of those in a position of power at the London Stadium to reinforce his playing ranks.

And the Englishman went on to reveal that the Hammers ‘made a bid for Nunes’.

Unfortunately for all associated with the capital club, however, the Portuguese international opted to rebuff West Ham’s advances, simply ‘choosing not to come’.

Moyes also went on to assure that his side are not working on a deal for Barcelona’s Memphis Depay.
