Liverpool & Manchester United handed boost in Aurelien Tchouameni race

Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their hunt of AS Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni.

Tchouameni has been linked with most of the top clubs in Europe over the last six months, but it did look as though it was Spanish giants Real Madrid who were leading the race for the defensive midfielder.

However, reports stemming from Spain this week are now claiming that Real Madrid have been put off by Monaco's £60m asking price for Aurelien Tchouameni, leaving Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to scrap for his signature.

Who is Aurelien Tchouameni?

22-year-old Tchouameni currently plies his trade in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco.

Despite his tender years, the youngster now has over 80 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt, and has quickly become one of the division’s rising stars.

He is a very defensively sound player whose main focus is disrupting attacks and winning the ball back.

This was demonstrated well in 2020/21, when Tchouameni ranked joint-first for most tackles and interceptions made in Ligue 1.

The midfielder’s recent form would also see him called up to the France national team for the first time in his career at the back end of 2021.

And so far this term, Tchouameni is once again demonstrating his defensive dominance, ranking joint-1st in Ligue 1 for the most tackles and interceptions made with 191.

So, given Manchester United are in desperate need of a no.6, it seems clear that the Red Devils must attempt to sign him this summer.

However, United’s lack of Champions League football could hinder any potential deal.
