Arsenal & Liverpool to miss out on major free transfer

The Premier League duo will reportedly not be snapping up a big name for free this summer.

The player being looked at is Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro, who is out of contract with the German outfit this month.

Liverpool have held a long-term interest in the 29-year-old, and it would not have been a surprise to see that reignited this summer given that the left-back can also play in midfield – a department which lacks depth at Anfield.

The Express add that Arsenal were also seen as a viable option for Guerreiro given that they are set to part ways with Granit Xhaka and Kieran Tierney this summer, and he could replace both seamlessly.

However, Fabrizio Romano reports that Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are the leading contenders to secure the signature of the defender and have already made contact with his camp.

Bayern Munich snapping up Dortmund players for free/ for a low fee is not new at all, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Mario Gotze and Mats Hummels having all swapped Dortmund for the Allianz Arena in recent years.

The news does leave Arsenal in a bit of a pickle, though, as they need to focus on strengthening other areas of their squad and signing Guerreiro for free to replace the seemingly outbound Tierney would have been great business.
