Arsenal eyeing midfielder dubbed ‘super top’ player by Barcelona boss

Arsenal are looking abroad to strengthen their midfield, according to reports.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

The defensive midfielder has spent his entire career on Real Sociedad’s books and has made 142 appearances for their senior side.

Zubimendi is valued at €40m by transfermarket but as he is under contract until 2027, Real Sociedad will likely be able to demand a higher fee if they wish.

The 24-year-old is a defensive midfielder by trade and would make a solid addition to an Arsenal midfield, which looks set for big changes this summer.

Granit Xhaka seems set to return to the Bundesliga, with both Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich showing interest in the Swiss international.

There has also been some speculation that Thomas Partey could be heading for an Emirates exit.

Declan Rice is understood to be Arsenal’s top midfield target this summer, but if both Partey and Xhaka move on, Zubimendi could be a real asset for the Gunners.

Despite still plying his trade with Real Sociedad, Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has dubbed Zubimendi a ‘super top’ player.
