AC Milan have appointed Paulo Fonseca has their new manager.

Fonseca has signed a three-year deal with the Serie A club after leaving French side Lille, who he managed for two years.

He replaces Stefano Pioli, who left Milan by mutual consent after finishing fourth in Serie A following five years at the helm.

The 51-year-old also departed his club after a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1, which saw them miss out on Champions League qualification.

He guided Lille to the Europa Conference League quarter-finals last season, losing to Premier League side Aston Villa on penalties.

Fonseca has previously managed Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Porto and Braga.

The Portuguese won three league titles with Shakhtar and lifted the Super Cup in Portugal in 2013.
