Man City on top, United close behind: Premier League agent fees revealed

An insight into the fees forked over by all 20 Premier League clubs to player agents over the course of the last year has been provided on Thursday.

The info comes courtesy of the Premier League themselves, who have revealed that, all told, the division's current members splashed out just shy of £272.6 million over the course of the 12 months between the 2nd of February 2021, and 31st of January 2022.

This marks a marginal increase on the sum paid out across the same stretch from 2020 to 2021.

Altogether unsurprisingly, it is money-laden champions Manchester City who top the pile when it comes to fees afforded to player representatives, with the Sky Blues' outlay having come in at £35 million.

Second on the list are neighbours Man United at £29 million, closely followed by Chelsea a million further back.

Such figures of course come in the midst of what has long stood as bemusement on the part of clubs and fanbases alike when it comes to just how handsomely player reps are rewarded for their part in transfer negotiations.

Just last summer, for example, it was widely reported that super agent Mino Raiola had demanded a jaw-dropping €40 million sum from European champions Chelsea, to sanction a Stamford Bridge switch for Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland.

FIFA, the world football's governing body, have as a result stepped in, to confirm plans for a cap to be placed on agent fees from next summer.

As per The Times, on the back of a concerted push from officials in the Premier League, 'the new plan is for the 10 per cent cap to affect all transfer-related payments to agents and a cap of three per cent of a player’s salary for services to that player'.
