‘Championship level at best’ Arsenal fans slam fringe trio following Carabao Cup third round knockout to Brighton

Arsenal fell to a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium to fall out of the Carabao Cup

Arsenal fans took to social media in their droves to target three players in particular during their 3-1 defeat to Brighton at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners, who currently sit top of the Premier League, made 10 changes to their starting XI that beat Chelsea on Sunday, with only William Saliba keeping his place in the starting XI.

And, though they took the lead when Eddie Nketiah rifled home midway through the first half, that was as good as it got for Mikel Arteta’s side, who were pegged back when debutant Karl Hein felled Danny Welbeck to concede a penalty, which the former Arsenal man confidently tucked home.

A less-rotated Brighton continued to threaten, and they made it 2-1 when Kaoru Mitoma curled home from the left-side of the penalty area, before Tariq Lamptey quashed any chance of a late Arsenal comeback with a third.

It means that Arsenal exit the Carabao Cup at the third round stage for the first time since 2014, when they were knocked out by Southampton.

And, the Arsenal fans took to social media to point the finger of blame at three players in particular, with all of Rob Holding, Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares attracting plenty of criticism for their sub-par performances.
