Match preview

A Sheffield United outfit desperate to get their form back on track are set to act as hosts this weekend, when Blackpool make the trip to Bramall Lane for a highly-anticipated Championship clash.

The Blades, of course, have seen their efforts on the pitch come under heavy scrutiny over the course of the last couple of weeks.

This comes with Paul Heckingbottom’s troops having endured a major dip in form since English football’s return post-international break.

United, prior to the latest round of national fixtures with a view to the World Cup, were flying high, sitting pretty atop the Championship table with a run of four successive victories to their name.

Since, however, the Yorkshire-based outfit have stuttered to just a solitary point from an available nine.

Their most recent outing, last weekend, saw Heckingbottom and co. put to the sword in alarming fashion by a Stoke City side fighting for their Championship lives.

Owing to the tight nature of the race for promotion, they will therefore head into the latest round of fixtures in the knowledge that, should the Blades slip to a 3rd loss on the spin, they could slip from top spot to the depths of 5th come the weekend’s close.

And hopeful of knocking Saturday’s hosts off their perch at the summit of England’s 2nd tier will be a Blackpool outfit buoyed by a solid result of their own last time out.

After bringing a three-game slide to an end courtesy of a hard-fought 0-0 stalemate with Sunderland the week prior, the Seasiders welcomed Watford to Bloomfield Road last weekend.

And, despite securing just a quarter of the possession over the course of the 90 minutes, Michael Appleton’s troops ultimately emerged comfortable victors.

This came as a late Jerry Yates brace added to Gary Madine’s opener inside ten minutes, en route to an eventual 3-1 final scoreline.

Blackpool, in turn, could well fancy their chances of an upset at Bramall Road on Saturday afternoon.

We at 101, though, envision Sheffield United doing just about enough to return to winning ways at the expense of the visiting Tangerines.
