Match preview

Two sides separated by just three points in the Championship table are set to lock horns at Deepdale on Tuesday, November 1st.

The clash in question will see Preston North End act as hosts, in a meeting with Swansea City.

Let’s first take a look at the recent endeavours of the former.

Preston are currently in the midst of a frustratingly hit-and-miss stretch of form, which has seen them rack up three wins and three defeats from the club’s last six outings.

The Lilywhites’ latest triumph came this past Saturday, in a meeting with relegation-battling Middlesbrough.

Just when it appeared as though proceedings were set to end in stalemate, after Emil Riis Jakobsen cancelled out Chuba Akpom’s early opener, Preston completed the turnaround at the death, courtesy of an injury-time winner from Jordan Storey.

Ryan Lowe’s troops, as a result, have climbed back into the top half of the Championship table, in the knowledge that a third win in four on Tuesday night could catapult them into the thick of the battle for a promotion playoff berth.

Hoping to put a halt to such efforts, though, will be a Swansea City side mounting their own promotion push.

The Swans have long stood as one of the English 2nd tier’s most in-form sides, recovering in spectacular fashion on the back of a dismal opening to the campaign.

All told, Russell Martin has guided his side to wins in six of their last eight attempts, a stretch which includes three-goal hauls against all of Hull City, West Bromwich Albion and Reading.

This past weekend saw the Welsh outfit showcase their fighting spirit once more, too, in recovering from a goal down to clinch a share of the spoils courtesy of Olivier Ntcham’s late leveller at Bristol City.

Swansea, as a result, have positioned themselves in 6th in the table.

Not only that, but a favourable round of results in midweek could see Tuesday’s visitors climb as high as 3rd heading into gameweek 20.

Martin’s men should, in turn, be regarded as narrow favourites to ultimately emerge from Deepdale with all three points.

Do not be surprised, though, in the case of Preston holding their high-flying opponents to a share of the spoils.
