A Preston North End outfit eyeing a return to winning ways will act as hosts, in a Championship meeting with relegation-battling Middlesbrough on Saturday, October 29th.

Let’s first take a look at the recent endeavours of the former.

Preston have endured an altogether hit-and-miss go of things of late. Across the club’s last six fixtures, Ryan Lowe’s troops have racked up three wins and three defeats.

Their most recent outing, a trip to Blackpool last weekend, culminated in the latter, as Ben Whiteman’s first-half spot-kick, followed by a late own goal from the hosts, could not prevent an eventual 4-2 final scoreline.

Remarkably, even in defeat, this two-goal haul marked a solid attacking output on the part of the Lilywhites, who, with a full 17 games on the board, have managed to find the net on a league-worst eleven occasions.

The Lilywhites, in turn, have slipped to 13th in the Championship table, now looking back over their shoulder towards the drop zone.

Safe to say, then, that a defeat at the hands of one of the central protagonists in the relegation dogfight in England’s 2nd tier thus far this season would set alarm bells ringing at Deepdale.

Middlesbrough, it is safe to say, have endured a campaign to forget thus far in 2022/23.

The Yorkshire-based outfit, all told, have managed wins in just a quarter of their fixtures, leaving them clear of the bottom-three by virtue of only goal difference.

And yet, optimism is nevertheless beginning to spread at the Riverside Stadium.

Boro’s last two fixtures, under the watch of interim head coach Leo Percovich, saw them clinch four points from an available six, with a 4-1 drubbing of Wigan Athletic a particular highlight.

Such efforts, in turn, have seen Michael Carrick, appointed on the club’s bench this week, provided with a solid platform upon which to build.

All associated with Middlesbrough will therefore be hoping for the ‘new manager bounce’ to come into effect on Saturday, to make it three straight outings without defeat.

And we at 101 are backing Carrick and co. to manage exactly that, courtesy of a share of the spoils come the full-time whistle at Deepdale.
