Wiegman insists ‘proper England’ ready to go ahead of Euro 2025 quarter-final

England boss Sarina Wiegman says her side are ready to go against Sweden in the quarter-finals of Euro 2025.

The Lionesses survived an early scare in the group stages against France to bounce back and secure their place in the knockouts by beating the Netherlands and Wales.

Now, their attention turns to the Scandinavian side, who have looked a dangerous opponent in the tournament.

Should they make it through, Wiegman’s side will only be two games away from helping the nation win back-to-back European crowns.

Speaking in her press conference ahead of Thursday’s game, she said: “Proper England is who we are and what we want to show.

“Of course it has something to do with our tactics and how we want to play but also our behaviours. How we want to support each other and work really hard and play to our strengths.

“When we do all of that I think our chances of winning are at their highest.

“I expect a very competitive game where it is hard to predict the outcome. They have had a very good group stage with the three wins they had.

“But I think we are in a very good place and we are ready to go, so I hope we can show that tomorrow.

“That is what they want to do, of course. We know they have some qualities and they’re good in the air. They want to get crosses in and they have some speed upfront too.

“We are going to try and prevent it and of course it helps when we have more of the ball. Of course we are expecting exactly what you say [a physical battle].”
