England striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm following an incident in a London nightclub last December.
Toney, who plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, was involved in an altercation on Wardour Street in Soho and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24.
A spokesperson for the 30-year-old said in remarks reported by the BBC: “Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court.”
Toney was a member of England’s World Cup squad and started the 3rd/4th play-off against France, a game the Three Lions won 6-4 in Miami.
His only other appearance at the tournament was as a last-gasp substitute as England tried to find a late equaliser in the semi-final defeat to Argentina.
Northampton-born Toney moved to Saudi Arabia in 2024 after a prolific spell at Brentford for whom he scored 67 goals in 128 appearances.
