England’s Agyemang out for season with ruptured ACL
The Lioness has released a statement confirming the news...
England forward Michelle Agyemang has confirmed she has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, ruling her out for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old picked up the injury during England’s 3-0 win over Australia on Tuesday, collapsing off the ball before being stretchered off.
Agyemang, on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion from Arsenal, had only been on the pitch for 13 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.
“[I’m] disappointed that results show a torn ACL,” she wrote on Instagram. “I am so grateful for all the kind words and support from everyone.
“Recovery starts now, I will be back stronger than before.”
Brighton have confirmed that they and Arsenal will collaborate on Agyemang’s rehabilitation programme, with support from England and the Football Association.
“Everyone at Albion sends all their support to Michelle as she begins her recovery, with her wellbeing foremost in all of our minds,” the club said in a statement.
Agyemang played a key part for England at Euro 2025, scoring off the bench in both the quarter-final against Sweden and the semi-final against Italy.
The young forward was also nominated for the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the world’s best Under-21 women’s player, and has started five of Brighton’s six Women’s Super League matches this season.
