The best free-kick ever scored in the Premier League?

UPDATE: Our good pals NetResult have removed all the links below from YouTube, thereby depriving football fans of seeing some of the best free-kicks ever scored. Good blokes.

“No goalkeeper in the world would have stopped it. It was without doubt the best free-kick I’ve seen in the Premier League.” – Alex Ferguson.

Who are we to disagree with Sir Alex, Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick last night was exceptional, but these 16 Premier League free-kicks were also pretty good:

Eric Cantona (v Arsenal, 1993)

Matt Le Tissier (v Wimbledon, 1994)

David Beckham (v Manchester City, 2000)

John Arne Riise (v Manchester United, 2001)

Christian Ziege (v Arsenal, 2002)

Gianfranco Zola (v Tottenham, 2003)

Thierry Henry (v Charlton, 2003)

Ryan Giggs (v Bolton, 2003)

David Beckham (v West Ham, 2003)

Steven Gerrard (v Portsmouth, 2004)

Thierry Henry (v Newcastle, 2006)

Cristiano Ronaldo (v Portsmouth, 2006)

Paul Robinson (v Watford, 2007)

Steven Gerrard (v Aston Villa, 2007)

Robin van Persie (v Sunderland, 2007)

Cristiano Ronaldo (v Sunderland, 2007)

(The Times have also produced a pretty lame list - we look forward to NetResult contacting one of the biggest newspapers in the UK to warn them of copyright infringement.)

  1. RIISE Says:

Stevie G’s against Aston Villa is a top contender for the best.

  2. jack Says:

Gerrards for me, though you have to admire how Ronaldo has basically created a new free kick technique

  3. Ryan Says:

What about Okocha against Aston Villa?

  4. Matt Says:

Gerrard’s doesn’t even come close - keeper got a touch, tried and tested technique. Ronaldo tore up the rule book, ignored the wall and just smashed it top corner.

  5. Greg Says:

Riise’s v Man Yoo for me.

The calibre of opposition, the rivalry and the situation surrounding the game all add to the quality of the goal too.

  6. gary neville is a blue Says:

    How about Elano vs Newcastle??

  7. David Langham Says:

How about Spann’s free kick? I forget the opponent but if you go on youtube or google and search Spann free kick you’ll find it. It’s quite impressive although it may be somewhat better than the taker intended… I’ll let you figure that out by yourselves once you watch it.

  8. baldyblue Says:

Christine just “toed it”, she was lucky it looped like it did. Now Elano’s versus Newcastle even gave the keeper a clear view of the ball all of the way to the goal.

  14. ziel80 Says:

kamisia: świetny ale nie lepszy od Kaki. na pewno nie. zresztą ich bezpośrednia konfrontacja w LM 2 maja zeszłego roku pokazała dobitnie kto jest lepszy

  15. c.ronaldo Says:

  17. frank Says:

for me this freekick of cristiano ronaldo is the best in the premier league but the best freekick taker in the world is juninho pernambucano!

  18. a.n. onyme U.S Says:

    Elano vs. Newcastle

  19. lewik Says:

Riise vs united is boss. FACT!

  20. Matt Says:

If thinking an ultimately worthless goal against Man United is the best ever scored in the premiership will somehow detract from the now surely growing feelings of utter inadequacy and blatant mediocrity then go ahead, I\’ll even agree with you if you like. Truth is, there isn\’t \

  21. Kubson Says:

Ronaldo is the best player on the world, he is famous!! respect
