Roma vs Barcelona: Champions League Quarter-final preview

Barcelona travel to the Italian capital to take on Roma on Tuesday night for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

The match is arguably just a formality, as Barcelona hold a 4-1 advantage from the first leg. That said, Barcelona themselves overturned a 4-0 first leg deficit in last season’s round of 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain.

Own goals from Daniele de Rossi and Kostas Manolas gave Barcelona a two goal lead before Gerard Pique made it three. Edin Dzeko bagged an away goal for Roma. Seven minutes later, Luis Suarez wrapped things up with Barcelona’s fourth.

Barcelona maintained their healthy lead at the top of La Liga following Saturday’s 3-1 win at home to Leganes. Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Roma suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico at the hands of Fiorentina on Saturday. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side are now without a win in their last three.

In their European history, Barcelon have won 38 out of 41 ties in which they have won the first leg at home.

The semi-final draw takes place on 13 April.

Barcelona team news vs Roma

Sergio Busquets is in the Barcelona squad and could be involved after recovering from a broken toe. The scoreline from the first leg means Busquets is unlikely to be risked from the start.

Andres Iniesta and Jordi Alba are expected to return to the starting eleven after starting Saturday night’s match from the bench. Paulinho and Samuel Umtiti also come into contention, having been unused substitutes against Leganes.

Thomas Vermaelen is in contention to face his former club.
