Szoboszlai claimed he would be fit

The European Championships is going to be an excellent opportunity to see plenty of young and prospering talent on the big stage.

Whilst the Under-21 tournament is currently underway there are plenty of players that would be eligible for the competition who have been called up to their senior squads.

One such player is RB Leipzig midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai. The Hungarian international joined the German side from Red Bull Salzburg in January but has yet to play for the team due to an adductor problem.

He had said previously in an interview that he would be fit for the tournament.

“Of course, my first six months at RB Leipzig were different to what I had imagined. The goal was for me to be able to help the team on the pitch during the second half of the season, which unfortunately didn’t work out.

“But I’m now fully recovered; I will be able to go 100% next season and I can’t wait for the new campaign,” he said upon signing a one-year contract extension less than two weeks ago.

Reports suggest Szoboszlai out

However, it now appears that he will miss the tournament due to the persistent injury problems he has faced.

Goal’s Ronan Murphy reported via German outlet kicker that he would indeed miss the tournament.

This will come as a huge blow to the national side who relied upon the RB Leipzig youngster to get them to the tournament with a massive goal in their qualifying match against Iceland.
