Barcelona halt attempts to land Robert Lewandowski after third bid is rejected

Polish international star Robert Lewandowski is no closer to his exit from German juggernaut Bayern Munich this summer after the Bavarians stonewalled the third attempt from Spanish giants Barcelona to land the 33-year-old striker.

As per reports in Bild - cited by Get German Football - Barcelona are unwilling to make a fourth bid after their €45 million plus bonuses offer was turned away by Bayern, who continue to demand €50 million if he is to leave the Allianz Arena this summer.

Lewandowski is slated to suit up for pre-season training on 12 July should no agreement with Barcelona - or any other potential suitor - be reached by that deadline, despite the fact that he is out of contract at the end of the 2022-23 Bundesliga campaign.

Failure to secure the Polish star would no doubt add to the frustration of Barcelona boss Xavi, as the former La Masia graduate and club legend has already been left disappointed by the Catalan outfit's lack of movement in the market thus far.

Barcelona are currently trying to fight tooth and nail to convince Brazilian winger Raphinha to join the project under Xavi at the Spotify Camp Nou this summer, though Leeds United hope to push the forward toward a move to Chelsea instead.

Xavi must also contend with the fact that former winger Ousmane Dembélé opted to officially become a free agent after his contract with the club expired, which means the Spanish headmaster faces an uphill battle in how he plans to build out the first-team squad for the upcoming La Liga campaign.

Though Barcelona may not want to come back to Bavaria for the fourth time, they may have little choice if they are to have any hope of running down bitter rivals Real Madrid in the coming year.
