Gameweek 386: Sorare MLS top performers

Back-to-back wins for St Louis have put them top of the Western Conference in MLS as LAFC’s inconsistent form continued with a 2-0 defeat at FC Dallas.

The defending champions looked back to their best with successive wins but losses to Vancouver and now Dallas mean they are still three points adrift of St Louis, who have taken advantage of the loss of form to put themselves three points clear, with Seattle Sounders ending their wait for a win in third.

Meanwhile in the Eastern Conference, FC Cincinnati dropped points for the second game running to see their lead cut to six points from Nashville, while NEw England Revolution and Columbus Crew are coming up on the outside after putting together an impressive run of form.

Each week 101 Great Goals will look at the best performing players in each position in Sorare MLS to give you an insight into which players might be worth considering as we head into the next gameweek.

Goalkeeper

Jonathan Sirois – 90

Sirois has been one of the standout goalkeepers in MLS all season, and his remarkable run of form sees him with an L15 score of 62 but the Montreal goalkeeper continues to go from strength to strength with an L5 of 82 after recording four successive scores of 75 and over with Montreal conceding just twice in four matches. They were on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat to New York City this week, but that would have been worse but for the performance of Sirois, who made five saves from inside the box and one interception as last man that scored him big points.

  • General: 0
  • Goalkeeping: 28
  • Possession: 2.1
  • Attack: 0
  • Decisive: 60

Defender

Tim Leibold – 94

Leibold has had a tricky start to the season, with a hamstring injury keeping him out for a sustained period before finally stinging some games together on the left of the defence for Sporting KC. Naturally, those scores have started to increase with the more time he has spent on the pitch and the more match fit he has got, resulting in this latest season-high of 94. It brings his L5 average to 59 up from 50 over his L50 with two assists in his last five matches and with some excellent statistics – particularly in possession – as per fbref, those scores can be expected to continue rising.

Leibold’s breakdown of Sorare points in the game was:

  • General: 8
  • Defence: 1.5
  • Possession: 14
  • Attack: 10
  • Decisive: 60

Midfielder

Thiago Almada – 100

Almada has long been one of the best-performing players on Sorare, to the extent where a summer departure to one of Europe’s major leagues is expected either this year or next. Having seen his returns drop off during an uncharacteristically quiet few weeks, he was back to his best with a perfect score in the 2-0 win over Philadelphia Union. The highlight was his brutally-struck strike for his eighth of the season was supported with his ninth assist of the season to give him a score of 100, that boosts his L5 to 52 and adds to a very impressive L15 of 68.

Almada’s breakdown of Sorare points in the game was:

  • General: 0.5
  • Defence: 0
  • Possession: 3.9
  • Attack: 26.5
  • Decisive: 70

Forward

Bongokuhle Hlongwane – 97

South Africa forward Hlongwane is a consistent if not prolific player in the Minnesota attack, but he played a key role in the 4-1 win over Portland Timbers. He registered his first assist of the season but more importantly his fifth goal of the campaign to make it already his best personal return in MLS since arriving from Maritzburg. He has had some good scores over the course of the season with a 79, 68, 74 and 67 over the course of his L15 to give him a respectable score of 56.

Hlongwane’s breakdown of Sorare points in the game was:

  • General: 2
  • Defence: 0
  • Possession: 1.2
  • Attack: 24
  • Decisive: 70
