Spezia and Fiorentina will play out a must-win battle down at the Stadio Alberto Picco this weekend with the two clubs separated by just one position in the table and hovering above the relegation zone by just a few points each.
It’s been a struggle for both sides so far in Serie A this campaign, and Spezia have to go back to just before the international break to see their last win in the Italian top flight. They did also manage to get past Brescia in a recent Coppa Italia second round clash, beating the Serie B side 3-1.
On the other hand, with a draw against the winless Cremonese before this and a loss to Salernitana last time out, combined with a 4-0 demolition from Lazio and a defeat to Monza, Spezia are one of the worst teams in the league right now in the form guide.
As for Fiorentina, they have been scoring plenty of goals in October, but with a 4-3 loss to Inter Milan last weekend, they are still winless in Serie A this month. The Florence side did manage to defeat Istanbul Basaksehir in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, which also comes off the back of a 5-1 hammering of Hearts.
It’s a game that could go either after such poor starts to the season, and either side could find themsevles in the relegation zone before the World Cup break if they can’t turn things around and results go against them.
