Two sides with altogether contrasting goals in mind on the back of the first nine gameweeks of the Serie A campaign are set to go head to head at The Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Monday, October 17th.

The clash in question will see relegation-battling Sampdoria play host to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

Let’s first take a look at the recent endeavours of the former.

Samp, at present, represent the basement dwellers in Italy’s top-flight. On the back of a nightmare opening to the term, culminating in no wins and six defeats from nine outings, the Blucerchiati have been labelled as early favourites to join city rivals Genoa in Serie B next season.

A lack of cutting edge in the final third has proven of particular concern, with Monday’s hosts having found the net on a paltry five occasions thus far.

One of these goals, though, did come last time out. This came as Samp, in the first outing of the Dejan Stankovic era, battled their way to a hard-fought share of the spoils at Bologna.

Stankovic’s troops making it two games on the trot without defeat this weekend, though, in truth, looks unlikely.

This comes with the latest visitors to the Luigi Ferraris coming in the form of AS Roma.

Unlike Samp, Mourinho’s Roma have enjoyed a solid season to date, en route to wins in six of their nine fixtures.

Two such three-point hauls have come since the return of club football post-international break, at the expense of Inter Milan and Lecce respectively.

One cause for concern for the Giallorossi ahead of their trip to Genoa, though, comes in the form of the enforced absence of Paulo Dybala.

A muscular injury suffered whilst in the process of finding the net last weekend means that the summer arrival at the Stadio Olimpico - already boasting seven direct goal contributions in eight appearances - is set to miss out.

Nevertheless, we at 101 envision Roma simply having too much quality in their ranks for a struggling Sampdoria to deal with on Monday night.
