Kilmarnock vs Ross County match preview

A winner takes all clash in Ayrshire, with the reward on offer for both guaranteed survival in the Scottish Premiership.

It’s very much advantage Kilmarnock after they demolished Dundee United 3-0 on Wednesday, effectively relegating the Tangerines in the process.

Kyle Vassell bagging a brace at Tannadice, before Innes Cameron came off the bench to secure the victory late on.

This is just the second time all season that Derek McInnes’ men have won away from home, but what a time to do it.

Ross County too scored three times in mid-week, but it wasn’t enough to see them to victory.

The Staggies found themselves 2-0 down at home to St Johnstone, with quick-fire goals from Yan Dhanda and Jordan White getting them back level, before Jack Baldwin lashed home a last minute, long-range strike.

Nevertheless, Malky Mackay’s men could not hold on for a vital victory, with the Saints equalising via a corner in stoppage time.

So, Ross County will not suffer immediate relegation, but do remain in the relegation play-off spot, with Kilmarnock in tenth and safe, for now.

The gap between the two is three points, but the Staggies boast a superior goal difference, meaning victory in Ayrshire would see them leapfrog their hosts.

Killie need just a point to survive and, given that they also have home advantage, will be confident of achieving this.

Who will be celebrating safety come full time at Rugby Park, and who will face Partick Thistle in the Premiership play-off final next week?
