Heart of Midlothian vs Kilmarnock match preview

With this league fixture coming in-between two huge European ties, could Heart of Midlothian slip-up?

Last weekend, Hearts made the perfect start to their season, beating St Johnstone 2-0 at McDiarmid Park, with new signing Yutaro Oda and then star striker Lawrence Shankland both on target towards the end.

Then, on Thursday night, the Jambos began their latest European adventure in Norway, taking on 28-times Eliteserien champions Rosenborg.

Well, by half time, it looked like being a miserable night for the traveling supporters in Trondheim, with the home side leading 2-0.

But, with 20 minutes to play, Alex Cochrane’s looping cross was headed home by Shankland, sparking wild celebrations behind that goal.

2-1 it finished at Lerkendal Stadion, leaving the tie perfectly poised, ahead of this forthcoming Thursday’s second leg back in Edinburgh.

Last Saturday evening, Derek McInnes’s men beat Rangers 1-0 at Rugby Park, with Brad Lyons’ poking home following a long throw shortly after the hour mark.

As a newly-promoted side, Killie finished tenth last season, very much hoping to end up further clear of the bottom two this time round.

However, Kilmarnock did win on the road just twice all season last year so, despite their European exploits, Hearts are still favourites to prevail at Tynecastle.
