Heart of Midlothian vs Hibernian match preview

Both of these two Edinburgh rivals will be featuring in European competition later this summer, but both are seeking capital city bragging rights on the final day.

Heart of Midlothian kick off one place and two points better off, following their hard-fought 2-2 draw with Rangers on Wednesday night.

Lawrence Shankland broke the deadlock in the first minute at Ibrox before, right at the end of stoppage time, Garang Kuol snatched an equaliser, poking home his first for the club.

This result ended the Jambos’ hopes of snatching third place, but Steven Naismith’s men only need a draw here to finish fourth.

Hibernian meantime came from behind twice to beat ten-man Celtic 4-2 at Easter Road in mid-week.

Élie Youan scored two stunning strikes, the second a goalkeeping howler, with Kevin Nisbet’s penalty followed by Paul Hanlon’s deflected back-post header securing the points.

Assuming Celtic beat Inverness Caley Thistle in next weekend’s Scottish Cup Final, fourth and fifth place finishes will see these two rivals feature in the Europa Conference League qualifiers.

Fifth join in the second qualifying round, while fourth enter in the third qualifying round, which is advantageous for obvious reasons, alongside the fact it means a club’s season begins in August, rather than mid-July.

There have already been four Edinburgh derbies this season, the first of which was a 1-1 draw, followed by back-to-back Hearts wins, with Hibs prevailing when they most-recently met in mid-April.

Will the Hibees snatch fourth spot with a victory at Tynecastle, or will Hearts claim the point they need to finish above their rivals?
