Leeds United vs Manchester United betting tips: Preview, predictions & odds

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds side have struggled in their second season

Manchester United to win and BTTS - 12/5

Leeds are in poor form and conceding goals for fun with 11 in their past five games. They have suffered two thrashings at the hands of their Pennine rivals in the last two seasons, and many fans are resigned to another defeat, but Ralf Rangnick's side have kept just three clean sheets in 11 so they should at least get on the scoresheet.

Fernandes ended a run of five games without a goal against Brighton but has fond memories of playing Leeds netting a hat-trick in the first game of the season as well as two last season. His ability to find space has caused the hosts problems in the past.

Match preview

At the start of the season, this would be a game all Leeds fans pick out and target as potentially the day of the season but instead, it is one they are dreading and fearing another embarrassment at the hands of their most fierce rivals.

The 5-1 defeat on the opening day of the season may have been a high point of the season for Manchester United - coincidentally it came before Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined - but it was supposed to be an aberration for Leeds after the successes of last season, but if recent weeks are anything to go by it was merely a sign of what's to come.

Having picked up wins over Burnley and West Ham in January, the hope was that a sticky period was over for the Peacocks but defeats to Newcastle and Everton in their last two have left them looking nervously over their shoulders at the drop.

And it's not just the points gap, but the manner of the defeats that is most concerning.

Marcelo Bielsa refused to strengthen in January but familiar holes in midfield were shown up in the 3-0 defeat to Everton when Bielsa himself admitted to tactical errors, and the man-marking style that his teams employ has a tendency to come unstuck against high quality players.

And in Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, the visitors have two players who have already done that against Leeds this season.

For a Manchester United side short on goals, inspiration and confidence, this type of open game could spark them into life - although if the rumours of problematic attitudes are to be believed, there is no side who could test that more than Leeds.

Ralf Rangnick's side should fancy themselves to make it a double over their rivals this season and further strengthen their grip on fourth place, but if ever there was a time to beat Manchester United, this is it.

Leeds United team news

Adam Forshaw is likely to return to the line-up after being left on the bench against Everton, while Stuart Dallas is the latest injury concern after being forced off in the first-half of the defeat.

If Dallas misses out, Junior Firpo would be expected to return from a spell out at left-back, but Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford remain on the treatment table

Manchester United team news

Raphael Varane is being assessed after falling ill before the Brighton win, but is expected to be okay to feature alongside the under-pressure Harry Maguire.

Eric Bailly faces a race to be fit after suffering an ankle injury on AFCON duty, but Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani are definitely out while Mason Greenwood remains unavailable.
