Chelsea vs Wolves: Match details
Match: Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Competition: Premier League
Date: January 27, 2021
Kick-off time: 6:00 pm, January 27, 2021 (UK time)
Stadium: Stamford Bridge
Betting prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Wolves
Positive results are more akin to a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow rather than a tangible reality for both Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The big-spending Blues have failed to score more than a single goal in each of their last five Premier League outings.
Wolves, in equal measure, have struggled in their own right; their once vaunted well-drilled system under Nuno Espirito Santo falling off the rails. Neither side come into proceedings in any decent form, and a draw could be on the cards here.
But the one wildcard into the mix has been the sacking of Frank Lampard, and the rumoured imminent appointment of Thomas Tuchel as his successor.
Chelsea vs Wolves: Recommended bets
– Christian Pulisic to score anytime
One of many Chelsea players to struggle this term under Lampard, Christian Pulisic will undoubtedly be elated at the prospect of yet again playing under the man that gave him his platform to burst onto the scene at Borussia Dortmund. Tuchel unquestionably will know how to get the best out of the Pennsylvania-native, and should he be in the match day XI, an improved level of performance should be expected from him.
– Correct Score: 2-1 Chelsea
It is unlikely that the hiring of Tuchel will turn Chelsea into world-beaters in the span of 48-hours, but the mercurial German tactician should at least be able to stabilise the match day XI and offer a better balance while utilising the wealth of talent at his disposal.

Chelsea vs Wolves: Match preview
The 2020-21 Premier League was meant to be the year Chelsea kicked-on and re-established itself among the English top-flight elite. After a credible season under club legend Frank Lampard that saw them finish level on points with Manchester United (while finishing 4th) yet thirty-points adrift of champions Liverpool, the Blues’ spending power once again was brought to bear.
All-told, the Stamford Bridge outfit shelled-out £250m in a star-studded summer spending spree that saw Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Edouard Mendy, and Malang Sarr were all brought to the English capital. But fast-forward to the present and Chelsea are in turbulent waters, and Lampard has been sacked. Replacing him is Thomas Tuchel.
Lampard’s position on the touchline was under considerable scrutiny, and none of Havertz, Werner, or Ziyech settled on the pitch. The Blues find themselves tangled in the race for Europe rather than distancing themselves from the rest, but Tuchel and his highly-praised tactical mind could be a key to unlock Chelsea’s potential on the pitch.
The German headmaster and former PSG, Borussia Dortmund, and Mainz manager will be expected to get an immediate tune out of a crop of players who should be pushing the club to a level higher than that has been consistently been put on display this season. There’s no better time than now, against a struggling Wolves outfit.
It’s gone from bad to worse for Wolves
Wolves are even more worse for wear by comparison to their counterparts on Wednesday’s trip to the capital. Just missing out on a top-six finish last season on goal difference, Nuno Espirito Santo has found no manner of luck at all this season.
The sale of Diogo Jota to champions Liverpool opened the door for Portuguese prodigy Pedro Neto to become the next face of the club, and though he’s performed well, Jota’s absence and penchant for making something happen from nothing is sorely missed. A freak-injury to Mexican international centre-forward Raúl Jiménez only compounds matters for Espirito Santo, whose side have struggled to put in the level of performances they were so lauded for in the previous two campaigns post-promotion in 2018.
The one recent bright-spot is the acquisition of Willian José in a loan-deal that see’s him at Wolves for the remainder of the season. At the very least, an experienced centre-forward can now be a highlighted feature in Espirito Santo’s match day plans.
Wolves find themselves winless in their last six, and have taken all three points in two of their last ten Premier League outings; only Newcastle United can cite worse form. Beating Chelsea for the second time on the trot this season could bring welcomed temporary aid as they enter an incredibly difficult run of league fixtures, but current form suggests a struggling away day in London.
Chelsea team news vs Wolves
The hiring of Thomas Tuchel means that places are up for grabs in his first match day XI, and in that light, it is assumed that the Blues will at least line-up in his preferred 4-3-3.
N’Golo Kanté will miss his chance to stake a claim for a place under new management through injury. Tuchel should have a full squad to choose from apart from the French international.
Wolves team news vs Chelsea
Loan-signing Willian José could make his debut for Wolves. The former Brazilian youth international presents a good – and similar profile – short-term solution in the absence of Raúl Jiménez.
Espirito Santo remains without the injured trio of Marçal, Jonny, and the aforementioned Jiménez, while Daniel Podence is not yet fully fit after returning to first-team duties.
