Watch: Arsenal loanee Tavares nets latest fine goal for Marseille

The head-turning campaign being enjoyed by Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares continued late on Sunday evening.

Left-back Tavares, of course, was allowed to depart the Emirates on a temporary basis last summer, after being deemed too raw to yet be depended upon on a consistent basis by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

French giants Olympique Marseille, in turn, took advantage of the defender’s sudden availability, swooping decisively to bring Tavares in on loan for the 2022/23 season.

And what an inspired decision this has since proven.

Tavares has gone on to enjoy a fine term in the south of France, racking up 26 appearances across all competitions, including 22 starts.

Not only that, but the Portuguese has showcased his explosive potential in the attacking third, too, en route to a hugely impressive haul of six goals.

The latest of these, meanwhile, came this evening, as Marseille made the trip to Toulouse, intent on keeping the pressure on Ligue 1 table-toppers Paris Saint-Germain.

When all was said and done, Igor Tudor’s troops managed precisely that, courtesy of a pulsating 3-2 triumph.

And it was Tavares’ strike which ultimately proved decisive.

The Arsenal man’s latest moment of excellence came a little over ten minutes from time, as, after being slipped in by another recognisable face in north London - Matteo Guendouzi - Tavares drove towards the end line, before sliding home at Maxime Dupé's near post.
