Watch: Alex Lacazette overtakes Mbappe as four-goal haul cancels out Wahi poker in 5-4 Lyon win

Former Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette has take his place front and centre in the French football headlines late on Sunday evening.

This comes owing to the frontman’s efforts as part of a late contender for the game of the season in Ligue 1.

The matchup in question saw Olympique Lyonnais welcome Montpellier to the Groupama Stadium.

With 55 minutes on the clock, it was the latter who looked well on their way to a comfortable three points, after the aforementioned Lacazette’s early opener, incredibly, was cancelled out by way of no fewer than four goals on the part of Montpellier’s Elye Wahi.

Lyon, though, simply refused to accept defeat.

After Lacazette first bagged his brace to keep hopes of an unlikely comeback alive, ex-Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren set the stage for a breakneck closing 20 minutes.

This came upon referee Bastien Dechepy pointing to the spot, handing Lyon the chance to complete a historic turnaround a full nine minutes into injury time.

And there was never any doubt as to who would take responsibility of the situation, Alex Lacazette stepping up to equal Elye Wahi’s tally for the evening, clinching a 5-4 victory for Les Gones, and overtaking Kylian Mbappe in the Ligue 1 Golden Boot standings all in one fell swoop:
