Video: Chaos in Spanish 2nd tier as Sporting Gijon stars in post-match attack on Real Oviedo goalkeeper

Remarkable footage showcasing ongoings in the aftermath of the clash between Sporting Gijon and Real Oviedo has begun to turn heads on Saturday evening.

The footage in question highlights altogether unsavoury scenes which saw Real shot-stopper Joan Femenias targeted and assaulted by a number of Gijon stars.

It currently remains unclear what sparked the incident, as tensions spiked on the back of a hotly-contested Asturias Derby.

Whatever the reason, though, it of course goes without saying that there is frankly no excuse for such behaviour on a football pitch, with Femenias having been on the receiving end of not only pushes, but slaps and kicks, too.

After the goalkeeper was left to fend for himself as his teammates celebrated victory on the other side of the Estadio El Molinón pitch, it was in fact one of Sporting's stars who was forced to intervene in his defence, dragging Femenias away from his enraged teammates before he was ushered to safety.

One goal enough

The post-match chaos at the Molinón comes after the evening's visitors emerged with the slenderest of victories, to make it a quartet of wins on the trot over the course of the last few weeks.

The game's telling moment was forthcoming with a little over ten minutes remaining in proceedings, as Juan Berrocal put through his own net to ensure that the latest edition of the Asturias Derby went the way of Real Oviedo.
