Rio Ferdinand provides update on Arsenal target’s future

Rio Ferdinand has been discussing the future of an Arsenal target.

The player in question is Ilkay Gundogan of Manchester City.

The German midfielder is out of contract with the Sky Blues at the end of this month and has been tipped for an Etihad exit.

Gundogan has cemented a reputation as a big-game player in the last few years, most recently netting twice to win Man City the FA Cup final.

The Citizens now have a Champions League final with Inter Milan on Saturday, as they look to become only the second English side to complete the treble.

And whilst Gundogan’s future is unlikely to be decided before then, Rio Ferdinand believes he is going to Barcelona:

“The person that needs talking about is the captain, Gundogan,” said Ferdinand. “He has been immense – when it has mattered, he has come up trumps, either with goals, performances, the control of games, the pace and tempo goes through him and Rodri a lot of the time.

On Gundogan’s future, he added: “Barca. I heard it’s Barca. That’s still big wages. Maybe Messi as well. Busquets has gone off the wage bill, probably on £200k-a-week. Pique. Alba.”
