Man City began the summer showing an interest in then Brighton left-back, Marc Cucurella.
The Spaniard excelled under Graham Potter and it was only a matter of time before he made the step up to a bigger club.
That team did look to be Manchester City. However, after City and Brighton failed to agree on a fee, Chelsea swooped in and snapped Cucurella up for a staggering £62m.
At the same time, the Sky Blues sold Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, leaving Joao Cancelo as the only left-back at the club.
Granted, both Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake can fill in at left-back when required, but Pep Guardiola and co. seemingly wanted a natural left-back on their books to provide cover for Cancelo.
The man they have turned to is Sergio Gomez. Fabrizio Romano has reported on Tuesday that Manchester City are closing in on a Sergio Gomez deal with Anderlecht, with the fee set to be in excess of €10m.

This, of course, makes sense given how light City are at left-back currently.
Gomez joined current side Anderlecht in 2021 for a fee of just £2m, leaving German powerhouse Borussia Dortmund.
The former Barcelona academy star has since featured 50 times for the Belgian outfit, scoring seven and assisting 15 in the process.
