Liverpool’s defensive shortlist revealed ahead of summer window

Liverpool are looking to strengthen their backline this summer.

Liverpool’s form has fallen off a cliff in 2022/23. The Reds sit 8th in the league after 22 games and are very unlikely to secure a top-four spot.

One of Liverpool’s main issues this term has been their defence. Trent Alexander-Arnold has been in especially bad form, whilst the Reds as a squad are leaking goals – including three to a Wolves side who had scored just 12 in 20 before their recent meeting with Liverpool.

Liverpool have shipped 28 goals in 2022/23 so far, which is already more than they let in during the entirety of 2021/22 (26).

Now, ahead of the summer transfer window, Liverpool are seemingly looking to fix their leaky defence.

TEAMtalk has claimed that Liverpool are interested in signing both Josko Gvardiol and Evan Ndicka in the summer transfer window. Gvardiol could be a difficult player to lure to Anfield considering his talent and the amount of clubs who are bound to be interested if he becomes available.

However, Ndicka is out of contract at the end of the season, so he could be the ideal target for Liverpool.

The Frenchman is also left-footed, a trait Liverpool currently do not have in their centre-back ranks.
