Liverpool ‘beginning to contemplate’ move for Sheffield United’s Sander Berge
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Sheffield United and Norway midfielder Sander Berge on Tuesday.
Sander Berge’s Sheffield United stint
Sander Berge joined Sheffield United in January of 2020, from Belgian outfit, Genk.
The Blades are understood to have paid around £20m to bring the midfielder to Bramall Lane.
At the time, Sheffield United appeared to have struck a pretty decent deal.
The youngster had impressed in the Champions League with Genk, and had several top clubs, including Liverpool and Napoli, reportedly interested in his services.
Since his move to England, though, the 23-year-old has failed to recapture his best form.
Berge looked somewhat out of place over the second half of last season, as he struggled to integrate into Chris Wilder’s side.
And the current campaign has of course proven nothing short of a disaster for all involved with the Yorkshire outfit.
United are almost certain to be relegated to the Championship, having amassed a dismal 14 points from 29 league outings thus far.
As for Berge, he has been out of action since December, and is yet to emerge on the winning side in a single game this season.
Liverpool linked with Sander Berge
Despite such struggles, though, the 24-time capped Norway international now appears to be attracting interest from one of the Premier League’s giants.
According to Eurosport, Berge is almost certain to leave Sheffield this summer, with the club set for a return to England’s 2nd-tier.
And Liverpool, who are looking towards new midfield options for next season, are ‘beginning to contemplate’ a move for the Blades star.
Aston Villa are also said to be tracking Berge, but Liverpool are now expected to join the pursuit:
