101 covered reports on Monday, which claimed that Chelsea have drawn up a shortlist of striker targets for Mauricio Pochettino after the Argentine expressed concerns his frontline may need further firepower next season.
The Blues have been in contact with a number of options, including Montpellier’s Elye Wahi and Juventus striker, Dusan Vlahovic.
Now, however, a fresh update on Chelsea’s links to Elye Wahi has been provided by Fabrizio Romano and it is not good news for Blues fans:
“I’m aware there have also been some reports about Chelsea and Elye Wahi, but my understanding is that it’s not something imminent at this stage,” Romano said.
“The talented young Montpellier forward is still assessing his options, many clubs are following him, but still nothing concrete. I’ve been told Chelsea’s plan is to do something with Strasbourg but it’s not that easy, the player side will be crucial to make a decision.
“In my personal opinion he probably still needs one more step before making that leap to one of the Premier League’s top clubs – he’s very talented, but needs to play.”
Elye Wahi is just 20 years of age but still scored 19 and assisted six in 33 Ligue 1 games last season – a remarkable return compared to the numbers Chelsea’s forwards put up last season.
